stairs????

if i walked up and down my stair case .. about 13 steps broken up into two sections .. like 6, landing, 7, done, how many times would i have to run up and down to burn 100 calories?
158 lbs. female, 5'5

Answer:
It does not depend on solely on your weight, but it does depend on whether or not you are going just upstairs or just downstairs. The energy expenditure of going UP stairs is about twice that of going DOWN stairs.

The forumla breakdown is:

UP: 0.11 calories per stair
DOWN: 0.05 calories per stair

Note the above are not full calories but a percentage of a calorie.

The full forumla is located here:

The Mayo clinic figures (depending on your weight) that you will burn between 5.9 and 8.8 calories PER MINUTE CLIMBING stairs.

EDITTED: For your weight, it would take you about 12-15 minutes to burn 100 calories going UP stairs.
