Wrap around stairs, angles? How do I, make a 3 sided octagon, what are the angle in degrees?
This deck will have 4 steps, in a three sided octagon. What will the treads angle be. Tread is what you step on. Ahh, so confusing. The height of the total stairs including the tread is 30 inches. Optimal length is under 3 feet. So what is the pattern on the stringers. Will the octagon change length?
Answer: An octagon has eight sides but you might want three sides OF an octagon. Divide 360 degrees by eight and subtract the answer from 180 - (if you're still lost thats 180-45 = 135! :-))
The rest of your question is so confusing I'm having trouble understanding it - perhaps a 'deck' has a different meaning. Do you mean something you would sit and drink on? If so where are the stairs ...

Oh hang on my brain hurts but I think I have it - the stairs wrap right the way around the deck? If so, yes the side steps get bigger by the exact width of the tread each time as the end of each tread will be cut at 45 degrees. The middle step would get bigger by twice the width of the tread as it has a 45 degree cut at each end ... Oh my brain hurts.
I'll get back with the optimal tread formula but you should be able to drop 30 inches in three feet fairly easily (I suspect the answer is a 10 to12 inch tread and a 7.5 inch riser (three treads, four rises). I think that fits the formula!
