How can I repair the shine to rubber coated stairs?

I cleaned my stairs at work with mopping solution. They ended up looking really dry, cracked and faded. They have live a rubber coat on them and I think I stripped them. The material is like cove base baseboards. I need to make them shiny and hydrated looking. they look awful!

Answer:
You can replace the shine with a kitchen floor product like 'MopnGlo'.
But you will still have the cracks and fading.
You can try some vinyl repair products for the cracks - find these in the automotive section of Wal-Mart.
Liquid shoe polish might take care of the fading.
